Kompang is a musical instrument that is close to the Malay identity. Used
mainly during wedding processions and official events, the kompang beat carries a distinctive rhythm to inform the audience of an important event is in motion. Popular throughout South-East Asia, the kompang is also a symbol of Malay unity in numbers.
In this program, participants will get to learn the history and how the kompang is made. They will also learn the fundamentals of kompang rhythms and beats and how it is used in formal events.
